Martha Caldwell

Martha Caldwell has 30 years of experience in education. She teaches, consults with schools, conducts seminars for teachers, and writes about education. Her interactive teaching method incorporates inquiry-based learning, social-emotional learning, identity formation (race, class and gender) and ethics to achieve results that enhance empathy, stimulate critical thinking and catalyze leadership development. She has developed courses in Mexican history and culture, African American history, women’s issues, peace and conflict in the Middle East, response to climate change, rites of passages, fairy tales, religion and ethics in Star Wars, and spoken word poetry. She taught writing, literature, drama, and Inquiry into Identity (co-developed with Oman Frame) at the Paideia School in Atlanta, GA, where she also was the faculty advisor for the middle level Girls’ Mentorship Program and the Gay/Straight Alliance. She currently directs iChange Collaborative.

We expressed in our faculty meeting today that this was the best professional development training we have ever attended in a collective 40 years of teaching. Thank you Oman, Martha, and Eddy for making this experience possible. We have already found allies and are taking what we learned to the action phase.
