It’s Not Just Diversity: Inclusivity is the Innovative Edge

Studies show that diverse teams are more innovative. Yet inclusion is the key ingredient that inspires innovation. Why? Because it builds collaborative relationships that synthesize multiple perspectives and generate collective intelligence.

Companies leading the way focus not just on diversity, but on the benefit of inclusion. In fact, focusing on diversity without building a culture of inclusion can backfire.

Organizations may naively believe that merely adding more people of color or women will solve the problem. Yet if an underlying culture of exclusion remains in place, they only invite conflict that causes damage.

Components of inclusion include fair employment practices, equitable pay, and open communication that incorporates multivariate perspectives. All of this rests on a foundation of relational trust and mutual collaboration.
